AMES, Iowa - America’s SBDC Iowa (SBDC) is pleased to announce Scott Putnam as the new Technology and Commercialization Director. In his position as Technology and Commercialization Director, Putnam will assist technology clients across the state with finding them additional resources, providing one-on-one counseling.
Scott Putnam brings over 25 years of diverse business experience to his new role as Technology and Commercialization Business Counselor with the Iowa Small Business Development Center at Iowa State University. Throughout his career, Scott has worked directly with hundreds of entrepreneurs and small business owners, guiding them through the complex process of bringing products and ideas to market.
Scott's background spans product development, business coaching, and financial guidance. Having served as a loan officer and spent years helping new businesses and entrepreneurs identify and secure funding, he brings a well-rounded understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with financing a new venture. That firsthand experience with both the excitement and the realities of the funding process gives him a unique ability to connect with clients at every stage of their journey.
He holds a Master of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Marketing, a combination that has shaped his practical, people-first approach to business counseling.
Scott is perhaps best known outside the business world as the inventor of Swat-N-Scoop, featured on Amazon Prime Video's 'Buy It Now' series, a testament to his firsthand understanding of what it takes to take an idea from concept to consumer.
A Pacific Northwest native, Scott has called Dubuque, Iowa, home for many years alongside his wife, who is a Dubuque native. They have two daughters, one currently attending DePaul University in Chicago and another who will begin her studies at Milwaukee School of Engineering this fall.
Scott is eager to bring his passion for innovation, his deep well of client-facing experience, and his genuine commitment to Iowa's entrepreneurial community to the Iowa SBDC team.
Austin Strawhacker, State Director, America's SBDC Iowa, says, "Scott brings a rare combination of real-world experience, financial expertise, and a deep commitment to client success.
